3D Science Learning: Integrating Dimensions

The three-dimensional (3D) structure of the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Science (OAS-S) is a brand new approach to science pedagogy, one which is dramatically different from Oklahoma's previous PASS standards. While many educators already emphasize hands-on activities in science, the degree to which OAS-S uses true inquiry-based learning in the classroom may be a novel experience for many. Genuine inquiry requires students to practice science in order to learn and connect a variety of scientific ideas. With full implementation of OAS-S this year, it is imperative that educators feel equipped with the tools and confidence to lead authentic lessons driven by students' own questions and curiosity. By engaging in a 3D learning activity and evaluating the components of the experience, participants will discover how the three dimensions of OAS-S are meant to be integrated in a lesson to build a deeper student understanding of science. Participants will also learn how to navigate the OAS-S document in order to further support the transition to 3D learning.
